Cardiovascular risk is defined as the probability of suffering a cardiovascular event in the next 10 years. This probability is determined by a number of risk factors.. So, the greater the number of risk factors, increased probability of developing a cardiovascular event.
Risk factors are classified into two types:
- modifiable factors: tobacco, alcohol, sedentary lifestyle, bad nutrition, high cholesterol, arterial hypertension, abdominal obesity, diabetes mellitus, stress, etc.
- Non-modifiable factors: age, sex, family background, and predisposing genetic factors.
Most cases of CVD are closely related to lifestyle habits and modifiable biochemical factors.
IS IT RIGHT FOR ME?
The test is especially indicated in:
- People from 35 a 65 classified years of intermediate or high cardiovascular risk
- People with family background of cardiovascular disease
- People classified as low risk and no family history
Biochemical cardiovascular risk assessment should be performed at least once a year.
PRELIMINARY CONSIDERATIONS
